Samson scored a brilliant hundred [Source: @BCCI/X.Com]
Sanju Samson scored back-to-back ducks in the ongoing T20I series and critics came after his life. However, the opening batter responded back in style by scoring yet another T20I century against a quality South African bowling lineup.
India's brilliant top-order continued to play the aggressive new brand of cricket as they tore apart the Proteas attack and slammed a mammoth 283/1 in their allotted 20 overs. Samson made a brilliant unbeaten 109, and his partner in crime, Tilak Varma bettered it with a score of 120* as the home side had no response to the onslaught from the deadly duo.
They added more than 200-runs for the second wicket as multiple records were broken during the course of the match. Talking about Samson, this was his second century of the series and third in the last five innings. Ever since he got an opportunity to open, the Kerala batter hasn't looked back at all.
Speaking to the official broadcasters, Samson reflected on his monumental knock and what it means for him.
“It is a bit hard to tell right now since I'm breathing so fast,” Samson told broadcasters after his innings. “I have had so many failures in my life, got two hundreds and then two ducks, I kept on believing in myself, kept on working hard and it came off today. After a couple of failures there were a lot of things going on in my head, Abhishek helped me out early on and then Tilak as well.”
India dominate Proteas to seal the series
The match was won at the halfway mark itself as chasing 284 was a mountain to climb for the Proteas batters. Arshdeep Singh made their job a lot tougher as he picked up 3 early wickets, including the dangerous Heinrich Klaasen.
Tristan Stubbs, David Miller and Marco Jansen provided a bit of fight, but the task of chasing an improbable target was a bit too much as the Proteas were bundled out for just 148 runs.
India won the series, 3-1 and thoroughly outplayed the home side across departments as the South African side has a lot to ponder upon.
