It was raining sixes at the Wanderers Stadium on Friday as the Indian duo of Sanju Samson and Tilak Varma took the South African attack to the cleaners in the 4th T20I match. Both the superstar batters slammed their respective centuries as India posted a massive 283/1 in their 20 overs.
The conditions were perfect for batting and Suryakumar Yadav made the right choice by electing to bat first. The opening pair of Abhishek Sharma and Sanju Samson gave a fiery start as the duo started on the front-foot and added 73 runs for the opening wicket.
However, when Abhishek departed, Tilak joined Samson and from there on, South Africa couldn't snatch a wicket as carnage began from both the ends. Sixes started to rain as both Samson and Tilak were severe on the Proteas attack. For the stats, the pair smashed 19 sixes between them as the home side had no answer to the onslaught.
In the process, they both reached their respective centuries. This was Samson's third T20I ton overall, and second of the series. Similarly, Tilak slammed his second successive T20I century of the series. By the time the innings ended, they had added 210 runs for the second wicket.
Indian pair surpasses Pakistan's deadly duo
During the course of their partnership, Tilak and Samson surpassed Pakistan pair of Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan to register the sixth highest T20I partnership for any wicket.
While Rizwan, and Babar added 203* Vs England in 2022, Tilak and Samson amassed 210* runs and stamped their authority on the match.
This was a hitting of the highest order as both the batters hardly gave any chances and had they played the entire 20-overs together, they would have broken the record for the highest T20I partnership ever, which is being held by L Yamamoto-Lake, K Kadowaki-Fleming of Japan.
