Jaiswal Reflects On His Headingley Heroics

In the post-day press conference, Yashasvi Jaiswal revealed he battled with cramps in both hands, but the pain couldn't prevent him from giving his best for the team.

After India lost KL Rahul and B Sai Sudharsan in quick succession, Jaiswal steadied the ship, forming a magnificent 129-run stand for the third wicket. While speaking to the media, the batter stated that he enjoyed his time in the middle with newly appointed captain Shubman Gill, as the duo ensured India's prolific outing on the opening day.

"I had cramps in both hands but it happens. I kept working on my game so that I can express myself in the middle. Amazing to bat with Shubman Gill and enjoyed my time in the middle with him," Jaiswal was quoted as saying by TOI

After Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma's retirement, Jaiswal and Gill ensured an ideal start to India's new era in Test cricket. The opening batter believes the youngsters are determined to put their best feet forward for the country, emphasising the importance of mental switch in helping the players handle pressure situations.

“We will try and do well for our team and the country. Mental switch is very important when you are playing under pressure. To stay in a good environment is key," he added.

Riding on Jaiswal and Gill's sublime tons, India finished day 1 with 359 runs on the board. With seven wickets still left, the visitors will aim to post a mammoth score in their first innings.
