In a significant development, it has been reported that India are going to hand Test cap number 317 to B Sai Sudharsan for the first game of the five-match series against England. Sai Sudharsan, who had recently earned a Test call-up following his exploits in the domestics as well as IPL, is all set to play his first match in the format.

Karun Nair To Bat In Lower Middle Order, Prasidh To Play Leeds Test

As reported by ESPNCricinfo, Sai Sudharsan will make his Test debut at Headingley, while Karun Nair will likely bat at number six in the Indian lineup. Sudharsan will probably bat at three, with Shubman Gill, Rishabh Pant and Nair following him.

In 49 First-Class innings, Sai Sudharsan has amassed 1957 runs at an average of 39.93. On the other hand, the Leeds affair will mark Nair's much-awaited return to Test cricket following a long hiatus. He performed admirably in the domestic circuit, eventually receiving a well-deserved recall for India's maiden assignment of the latest WTC cycle.

Meanwhile, the report also claims that Prasidh Krishna has been chosen as the third seamer for the series opener.

It states that India are going to pick Shardul Thakur as their seam-bowling all-rounder, with Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj leading the pace battery. In such a scenario, star seamer Arshdeep Singh will likely miss out on selection for the opening encounter.

Dhruv Jurel, Harshit Rana, Washington Sundar and Akash Deep will likely be India's concussion subs for the Headingley Test. Jurel will be a substitute in the batters' category, while Rana, Sundar and Akash will be included in the all-rounder, spinner and pacer categories, respectively.
