In a close-wire T20 World Cup final, India held their nerves and clinched a 7-run victory over South Africa in Kingston, Barbados leaving the Proteas heartbroken.

South African skipper Aiden Markram expressed his disappointment after the narrow defeat, acknowledging the team's efforts and reflecting on their campaign.

Markram Reflects on Heartbreaking T20 Final Loss

During the post-match presentation, Aidem Markram reflected on the loss and remained proud of his team's performance throughout the tournament.

“Gutted for the time being. It'll take some time for us to have a really good reflection on a really good campaign the group had. Obviously, for the time being, as I mentioned, it hurts quite a bit. Having said that, I'm incredibly proud of this group of players and everyone involved with the team."

South Africa came close to chasing down India's target of 177, needing 26 runs in the final four overs with Heinrich Klaasen and David Miller at the crease.

However, India's bowlers, Hardik Pandya, Arshdeep Singh, and Jasprit Bumrah, turned the game around, leaving South Africa to fall short by seven runs.

Markram Acknowledged The challenge posed by India's Bowlers

"I feel they bowled well. Don’t think there was a whole lot to work with regards to the pitch. Thought we did well to restrict them to what we thought was a chaseable total. Thought we batted well as well, and it came down to the wire."

The match kept fans on the edge of their seats with its twists and turns. South Africa's chances looked promising when Klaasen scored a quick-fire fifty, but the momentum shifted in India's favor as they lost two wickets and managed just ten runs in the final three overs.

South Africa's next assignment will take them to the Caribbean in August for two Tests and three T20Is, where they will look to build on their impressive performance in this year's World Cup.
