Babar Azam roared back into form with a scorching 68 against South Africa in the series-deciding third T20I match at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore. Making his return to the T20I national team in the series for the first time in nearly a year, the innings marked his 37th half-century in the format as he continues to revive his 20-overs career ahead of the 2026 Men’s T20 World Cup.

A day after anchoring Pakistan’s emphatic series victory over the Proteas, Babar Azam took to his X account and expressed his gratitude towards his fans.

Babar Azam gets emotional in thankful post

Babar Azam demonstrated his batting excellence in his comeback T20I series for the Pakistan cricket team. The legendary Pakistani batter belted nine elegant boundaries in the innings as his team mowed down South Africa’s 139-run total with four wickets and an over to spare.

A day after winning the ‘Player of the Match’ award, Babar Azam took to X and thanked his fans for believing in him during his bad patch. He said:

“Grateful to be back doing what I love. Thankful for those who believed when it was quiet.”

Babar Azam started off the series against South Africa with a duck at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium earlier this week. He followed up his batting failure with an unbeaten 11 in the second game, and eventually finished with 68 in a series-winning cause to aggregate 79 runs in three innings at an average of 39.50.

Babar Azam’s 68 against South Africa in the series-decider could not have come at a better time for the legendary Pakistani batter, as the innings reignited his T20I credentials just before the 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in India and Sri Lanka.

Babar Azam will now turn up for Pakistan in the ODI segment of their all-format home series against South Africa. The first match of the series will be played on November 4 at the Iqbal Stadium in Faisalabad.
