Umar Akmal, the Pakistan wicketkeeper-batter long out of favour with Pakistan cricket, was recently trolled heavily online for a hilarious mistake that surprised many, especially coming from a cricketer with nearly a decade of international experience.

Pakistan recently clinched a three-match T20I series against South Africa at home, with the series decider played on November 1. However, Umar Akmal’s remarks on this victory became the reason for his brutal trolling on social media.

Umar Akmal makes a grave mistake

Taking to his X handle (formerly Twitter), Umar Akmal congratulated the Pakistan cricket team for their T20I series win but made a glaring mistake in his post.

Akmal wrote, “Heartiest congratulations to @TheRealPCB on winning the tri-series final! Babar Azam’s knock was phenomenal. Bringing his A-game when it matters most!”

While Akmal was generous in praising Babar Azam for his heroic 68-run knock, he mistakenly referred to the bilateral series finale as a “tri-series final.”

For the unaware, a tri-series involves three nations competing in a round-robin format, with the top two teams facing off in the final. However, the Pakistan vs South Africa contest was simply a three-match T20I series, not a tri-series, as Akmal claimed.

Netizens quickly flooded the comments section to mock the veteran cricketer. One user wrote, “Final? Or just trying to hide the Asia Cup final?”

Another commented, “Bootney k.. konsi tri-series? Bhai meherbani karke account deactivate kar ya apne phone ko aag laga.” A third user sarcastically added, “3rd team konsi thi?”

Pakistan command in home series

Meanwhile, Pakistan sealed a commanding win in the final T20I. South Africa, batting first, posted a modest total of 139, thanks to Reeza Hendricks and Corbin Bosch’s contributions. Shaheen Afridi and Faheem Ashraf starred with the ball, taking three and two wickets respectively to dismantle South Africa’s top and middle order.

In response, Saim Ayub fell for a duck, but Babar Azam’s composed 68 and Salman Agha’s 33 guided Pakistan to victory with four wickets in hand and six balls to spare.
