Former Indian cricketer and Jharkhand veteran Saurabh Tiwary heaped praises on his state counterpart and legendary Indian captain MS Dhoni by reflecting on the wicket-keeper's journey from rags to riches and discussed his impact on the state's welfare.
MS Dhoni's journey from a small-town boy to one of the most iconic figures in Indian cricket has inspired countless aspiring cricketers to follow their passion. Dhoni excelled in his field as a captain by leading the nation to three ICC trophies, making him the most successful leader of Indian cricket.
However, as much as Dhoni's contribution helped India gain recognition on the world map, his state, Jharkhand, was also not left behind.
Jharkhand cricketer Saurabh Tiwary, who recently announced retirement from professional cricket, told Sports Now that he considers MS the 'God of Jharkhand Cricket,' because it was only after Dhoni donned the national colors that people paid attention to the state and its welfare.
Furthermore, Tiwary also discussed MS Dhoni's impact on the aspiring cricketers. He recalled how the former Indian captain still comes to the ground when he is in town to motivate the players. Apparently, Dhoni takes an active part in warm-up games and also instills loads of confidence in the budding talents.
"MS Dhoni is the God of Jharkhand cricket. Ever since he started playing for India, people started knowing us as a team. They came to know where Jharkhand is. MS Dhoni gave us confidence and whenever he is around or in the town, he comes to attend our practice sessions. Sometimes, he takes part in the warm-up games also. His support is everything for us," Saurabh Tiwary told Sports Now.
Interestingly, Saurabh Tiwary played under MS Dhoni's leadership for a brief period in the past and shared his experience of the same. Tiwary affirmed that Dhoni always allowed freedom to its players. He was the definition of a true leader, as he backed the ones struggling diligently.
Besides, Tiwary also ranked the former wicket-keeper's impact from behind the stumps highly. His invaluable advice to the bowlers and apt field placements made him stand apart from the masses.
"Dhoni bhaiya gives a lot of freedom when he is leading the team. He will stand by you even if you are not performing. Apart from leading the team, when Dhoni bhaiya is standing behind the wicket, he helps bowlers a lot. He would tell you how the wicket is responding and also he will help you with accurate field placements," he added.
Overall, Dhoni's influence on the welfare and development of cricket in not just Jharkhand but the entire country in general is undeniable. And Saurabh Tiwary's recent comments only add weight to that perceived notion.
