Shreyas Iyer led Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) currently lead the points table in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024.

Gautam Gambhir, who returned to KKR as mentor from Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), is being widely credited for the team's transformation.

However, according to former West Indies legend Ian Bishop, KKR's captain, Shreyas Iyer, is not receiving enough recognition and credit despite his significant contribution to the team's success.

"Shreyas became DC (Delhi Capitals) captain in 2018 when GG (Gautam Gambhir) stepped down after DC lost 5 of first 6 games. DC then finished the season winning 4 of next 8 games. 2019 DC 3rd, 2020 DC 2nd. 2021 injury & only 8 games so (Rishabh) Pant captained. To KKR 2022, new franchise, 7th. Missed 2023. 2024," Bishop responded to fan on his post in social media.

Questioned the double standards, Bishop argued saying: "So GG gets the praise when they win. Shreyas gets the blame if they lose? Or will you say its GG's fault to if they lose?"

While Gambhir deserves credit for KKR's comeback, Bishop believes that Iyer deserves more recognition.

Despite Gambhir's influence being evident since his return to KKR, Bishop points out that Iyer has been managing the team's resources effectively, which has contributed to KKR's current position at the top of the table.

Under Gambhir's leadership, notable changes have been observed in KKR. Sunil Narine has become a formidable force as an opening batter, and new signing Phil Salt has emerged as another key player for the team this season.

Gambhir's strategic vision is evident in these changes, but Bishop emphasizes that Iyer's role in managing the team  in field should not be overlooked.
