'It Disrupts The Bowlers...,' Shreyas Iyer Reveals KKR's Approach After Thrashing LSG

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) moved to the top of the table with 16 points to their name following their massive 98-run win over the hosts, Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) on Sunday evening in Lucknow. They also move a step closer to officially having a 'Q' in front of their name and head to the playoffs.

After being put in to bat first, KKR got off to another robust start, thanks to yet another fifty (81) for Sunil Narine and 32(14) for Phil Salt. Ramandeep Singh stood out for his 25*(6) as he helped KKR finish at 235/6.

While defending the total, Harshit Rana and Varun Chakravarthy were all over LSG as they shared 6 wickets for their 6.1 overs while just conceding 54 runs.

During the post-match interview, captain Shreyas Iyer jokingly said that they are sacrificing tosses to win these matches.

Talking about whether the pitch was a 200+ wicket, Iyer said,

"We don't assess the pitch after the first 6 [overs] if we get a good start, we know what total to make. I had a chat with Sunil after the powerplay and he said anything close to 200 is a great score. After that, it was icing on the cake. Great start by both of them [Salt and Sunil]"

On the flexibility of their batting order, Iyer stressed the importance of a left-right combination.

"We have to be flexible in terms of lefty-righty combination. It disrupts the bowling line and lengths. Bowlers have to change so much as it plays on their minds. Everyone is padded up."

Shreyas also credited the performances of uncapped players like Harshit Rana, Angkrish Raghuvanshi and Vaibhav Arora and how they have stepped up this season. He finished by lauding the consistency of Sunil Narine.

"It's all about freedom, to go out and express. Their mindset is positive. The majority of the time, they have been good. Sunil has been splendid. The start from openers has been great. Pure bliss."

He ended the interview by asking the group to continue with the way they have been playing this season and keeping the momentum.
