Mumbai Indians (MI) at last lived up to their reputation as five-time IPL champions with a commanding performance against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH).
After restricting SRH to 173/8, MI chased down the target in just 17.2 overs, thanks to an unbeaten 102 off 51 balls by Indian 360 degree batter Suryakumar Yadav.
This ton marks Suryakumar Yadav's sixth T20 century and his second in the IPL.
With this defeat, SRH's chances of qualifying for the playoffs have become uncertain as they missed an opportunity to move above CSK in the points table.
Although currently at the 4th spot, SRH's game against LSG will be crucial, almost like a knockout match.
Pat Cummins' words after MI loss
"Probably a couple short, at the Wankhede you want as many as you can get. You always feel like you’re in, the wicket had a little bit in it so we were definitely in the game. I think Sanvir helped us get to that 170 instead of 150, ideally we’d have a bowler. It’s T20 cricket, and it doesn't always work out. SKY played really well. We like playing at home, we’ll wait and see what’s ahead of us. Hopefully a few more fireworks"-Cummins said post game.
After losing Abdul Samad's wicket, Pat Cummins was forced to send in the impact player Sanvir Singh, a move that proved beneficial for SRH. Sanvir's contribution helped SRH go from 136-8 to 173-8 in their allotted 20 overs.
However, this decision came at a cost, as SRH had to sacrifice one bowler's spot. Mumbai Indians' Suryakumar Yadav capitalized on this change and made the most of it during MI's successful chase.
