Following India’s historic undefeated campaign at the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, captain Rohit Sharma lauded his team’s “passion and commitment” while emphatically declaring that the future of Indian cricket is secure.

With the next generation ready to warm the field, Rohit thanked a thriving pipeline of young talent featuring Shubman Gill, and Shreyas Iyer among others who are ready to dominate world cricket for years to come.

Rohit Sharma Unveils India’s Blueprint

Speaking to the ICC after lifting the Champions Trophy, Rohit emphasized the meticulous planning behind India’s transition phase. Over the past five years, the team management has prioritized blooding youngsters alongside established stars, creating a robust bench strength.

“That is the whole point. You want to create your bench strength while you’re playing. Whenever we had the opportunity in the last four or five years, we’ve always tried to give opportunities to all these players. They’ve grabbed it.”

The results were evident during the Champions Trophy, where rising stars like Shubman Gill and Shreyas Iyer stepped up under pressure. Rohit highlighted the selection dilemmas caused by this depth as a “good problem."

“When you are discussing which player to pick, who to drop, who’s going to miss out on the opening eleven, that tells you there is so much depth in this team.”

With a T20 World Cup in 2026 and the 2027 ODI World Cup on the horizon, Rohit expressed confidence in India’s white-ball continuity. While he hopes to feature in both tournaments, his focus remains on empowering the next generation.

“I can surely say that Indian cricket for the future is in very, very safe hands, looking at how the players are coming up, how they want to take that responsibility, how much hunger is there. The passion, the talent, all of that is there. It’s just about now going out there and doing it.”

Rohit’s Leadership And Kohli’s Endorsement

Amid Jasprit Bumrah’s fitness management and the selectors’ intent to groom Gill as a future deputy, Rohit remains the anchor of India’s transition, including from Virat Kohli, who recently stated that India’s core is “ready to play for the next eight years.”

Kohli, who shared a heartfelt moment with Rohit after the Champions Trophy final, stressed the importance of leaving Indian cricket “in good hands” whenever the duo decides to retire. For now, though, Rohit’s recent retirement rumour dismissals ensure that the legacy of dominance is far from over.
