After a heartbreaking loss in the Champions Trophy final against India, the New Zealand side will now focus on the T20I series Vs Pakistan, starting on March 16. The Black Caps on Tuesday, announced their squad for the upcoming series and have named Michael Bracewell as the captain of the team.
Interestingly, Bracewell's first stint as Kiwi captain also came against Pakistan last year away from home. All the key players including regular skipper, Mitchell Santner, Rachin Ravindra and Glenn Phillips will not be available for the Pakistan T20Is as they are set to play in the Indian Premier League (IPL).
The IPL will begin on March 22 and the Kiwi players who are taking part in the league will join their respective franchise, and as a result, will be unavailable for the entire series. This provides an opportunity for several forgotten stars to be included.
Ish Sodhi, Jimmy Neesham back
Forgotten stars, Ish Sodhi and Jimmy Neesham are back in the team alongside Finn Allen and Tim Seifert. Ben Sears is also back after missing out on a place in the Champions Trophy due to a back injury.
Promising pacers, Kyle Jamieson and Will O'Rourke have also been drafted in the team, but will only play three matches as the selectors are keen to monitor their workload. With big names missing out, the series provides an opportunity for the youngsters to grab the chance with both hands.
