In a high-octane semi-final clash between India and Australia at the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy, Shreyas Iyer’s exceptional fielding prowess earned him the coveted Best Fielder Medal, presented by former India head coach Ravi Shastri.
The accolade, awarded in a spirited post-match ceremony, recognized Iyer’s game-changing contributions on the field, which played a pivotal role in India’s thrilling victory. Nominated alongside stalwarts Virat Kohli, Shubman Gill, and Ravindra Jadeja, Iyer emerged as the standout performer, drawing roaring applause from teammates.
Ravi Shastri Charges Up The Boys!
As the Indian team gathered in the dressing room after securing their spot in the final, Ravi Shastri, known for his charismatic flair, draped the medal around Shreyas Iyer’s neck but not before charging up the boys in blue with his electrifying voice.
"Individual brilliance will only take you to a certain level but it is the collective team effort that'll take you across the finishing line. Today two champion teams were playing, pressure game, character shown, team effort flashes of brilliance in the field always makes the difference. Normally, it's the turning point"
The room erupted in jubilant cheers, with players clapping and chanting as Shastri handed the medal to Iyer.
Iyer’s Fielding Masterclass
Iyer’s impact was felt early in Australia’s innings when he executed a sensational direct hit to dismiss Alex Carey. Carey, anchoring Australia’s chase with a dangerous partnership, was left stunned as Iyer’s bullet throw from the deep shattered the stumps.
Not content with one highlight, Iyer later clung to a skier at long-on to send back Ben Dwarshuis (15 off 7) during the death overs, curtailing Australia’s late surge.
India Need One More Win
Shastri who came in as the special guest to present the award also motivated the team saying that by far India has been the best team in the tournament and needs only one more win to complete the saga.
As cricket fans await March 5's match results between New Zealand and South Africa, it will be interesting to see who will face the Men in Blue for the final of Champions Trophy 2025 on March 9 in Dubai.
