Yashasvi Jaiswal slammed 76* on Day 1 [AP]
Day 1 of the ongoing first Test between India and England at Hyderabad produced an enterprising day of cricket, where wickets and runs came in heaps.
However, the highlight of the first day of the five-Test series was India's young opener Yashasvi Jaiswal, who exhibited his own style of cricket, which left experts and former players in awe including former pacer Zaheer Khan.
Jaiswal played a whirlwind knock of 60-ball 76* runs, which included nine fours and three sixes, where the batter absolutely butchered the likes of England spinner Tom Hartley and Rehan Ahmed, displaying immaculate foot-work and pouncing on anything that was even slightly loose.
Speaking on Colors Cineplex, Khan lauded Jaiswal for showcasing precise footwork both on the front and back foot, which is crucial for tackling spinners on such pitches.
"He got full marks for whatever questions were asked of him" - Zaheer Khan
"That's why he needs to be praised more. He got full marks for whatever questions were asked of him. If someone is a good front-foot player, the bowler tries to make him play more off the back foot.. If someone does not use his feet, you try to bowl a little slower as a spinner and force him to use his feet. If you have all those attributes, you can put pressure on any bowler. We got to see some amazing shots off both the front and back foot. The positive mindset was evident from the first ball."
In his short-Test career, Jaiswal has already left a deep impression, amassing 392 runs with one ton and two fifties, and will have another chance on Day 2 to add to his ever-growing tally, and score a massive hundred.
