Ravichandran Ashwin headlined India’s dominant day out against England in Hyderabad by picking up three key wickets. While he was assisted by spin mates Ravindra Jadeja and Axar Patel in demolishing the entire English batting line-up for just 246, it was young opener Yashasvi Jaiswal who further extended India’s dominance by shaping up a chanceless 76* by stumps on Day 1.

After the close of play, Ashwin praised Jaiswal for his whirlwind half-century and claimed that he sees glimpses of Rishabh Pant in the youngster.

Ashwin compares Jaiswal with Rishabh Pant

Senior Indian all-rounder Ravichandran Ashwin heaped a huge praise on younger teammate Yashasvi Jaiswal after the latter punched out 76 unbeaten runs against England on the opening day of their first Test match at Hyderabad’s Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium.

Speaking after the close of play, Ashwin even compared Jaiswal with dashing wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant for their attacking stroke-play. He said:

“He’s (Yashasvi Jaiswal) not put a foot wrong, playing some shots. I’m enjoying watching it. I sometimes see Rishabh Pant in his batting. I would have like to see Pant & Jaiswal together against left arm spinners," Ashwin lauded.

Earlier in the day, Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja triggered England’s top-order collapse with a quick three-wicket burst after the visitor’s sublime 55-run opening stand. Both spinners claimed 3 wickets each in the innings, while Axar Patel and new-ball speedster Jasprit Bumrah chipped in with two wickets from their respective ends.

After folding up the Englishmen for 246, Indian openers Jaiswal and Rohit Sharma wiped out 80 runs off team’s first innings deficit on their own in just 12.2 overs. Jaiswal cracked his second Test half-century and his unbeaten 76 took India to 119-1 by stumps on Day 1. The batting prodigy will resume his innings alongside Shubman Gill on Day 2.
