Experienced speedster Fazalhaq Farooqi had a memorable outing on his first T20 World Cup 2024 outing as he rattled Uganda with a sensational five-wicket haul in the fifth group-stage game of the tournament. Farooqi, who derailed Uganda's top-order with two breakthroughs in his first over, finished his spell with clinical figures of five for nine in four overs.

After the game concluded, Farooqi received the player of the match award for his outstanding bowling effort. In the post-match presentation, Farooqi reckoned that he got some swing early on with the new ball, contributing to his stellar success in the game.

"Thanks to the almighty. I missed the hat-trick a few times. That's not something in my control but will try to pick up a hat-trick if I get a chance in the future," Farooqi said.

"I just tried to bowl a few balls in the wicket to see how it behaves. I got a good amount of swing with the new ball. When I came back for the second spell, I bowled it slower. I just tried to mix it up and it helped me tonight," he added.

He also acknowledged how playing franchise cricket all around the world has helped him fine-tune his T20 bowling skills.

"Definitely. The franchise cricket has helped me. I have been playing in different franchise leagues for the last three years and it has helped me to keep improving every day. You get to learn a lot when you play along side the best players in the world," he concluded.

With the emphatic win over Uganda, Afghanistan opened their account in the T20 World Cup points table. They will face New Zealand in their next group-stage game at the same venue on June 8.
