One of South Africa's most talented cricketers, Faf du Plessis will lead Johannesburg Super Kings in the upcoming second edition of the SA20 2024 edition, which gets underway tomorrow (January 10).

In the opening encounter of the tournament, the Kings will square off against defending champions Sunrisers Eastern Cape, who won the inaugural season last year.

Du Plessis, who has retired from ODIs and Tests, has managed to keep himself fit for several years playing in various T20 leagues and was in talks to make a return to South Africa's T20 side as well with the change of coaching staff.

The former Proteas captain also opened up about his T20 World Cup 2024 ambitions, which could be a possibility, if the batter performs well in SA20, and the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL), where he leads Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB).

As quoted by NDTV responding to a query about SA20 being a pathway to the T20 World Cup, du Plessis, 39, stated that his first target is playing cricket after an injury layoff, and then everything else.

Final Crack - Faf du Plessis

"Final crack... it is first about getting back from injury, looking forward to playing cricket again. Obviously, the tournament is the most important thing, I just want to make sure I play good cricket. It is a great time for us to be still involved in the game. Then we'll see what happens after that."

In 50 T20Is, between 2012 and 2020, du Plessis has scored 1,528 runs with one hundred and 10 half-centuries.
