The relations between Australia's Usman Khawaja and cricket's apex governing body International Cricket Council (ICC) seem to get murkier after the latter rejected the former's appeal.

Khawaja had appealed to revoke the sanction levelled against him by the ICC after the cricketer wore a black armband during the first Test between Australia and Pakistan in Perth, which the governing body felt uncalled for.

In his defence, Khawaja stated that the black armband was for personal bereavement and not for showcasing his solidarity for Palestine during the ongoing Gaza crisis.

As per a report Sydney Morning Herald, an unnamed source stated the ICC is in no mood to spare Khawaja, who broke the rules and regulations, which prohibits a player from displaying political, religious or racial causes during a match.

''Usman Khawaja’s reprimand for wearing a black armband onto the field during the first Test against Pakistan in Perth will stand after the International Cricket Council rejected his appeal against the sanction," the report read.

ICC further states that any cricketer, who needs to wear a armband need to take permission from the home board, in this case Cricket Australia (CA), which Khawaja did not.

The controversy sparked off when the 37-year-old expressed his desire to wear shoes, which displayed "all lives are equal' as a message on the side, which the ICC objected to.
