One of India's most vital cog in bowling recently has been pacer Mohammed Shami. However, an ankle injury forced the bowler to miss the South Africa tour and is currently racing against time to regain fitness for the upcoming five-Test series versus England.

England tour India for a gruelling five-match series, which gets underway from January 25, where Shami is hoping to make a comeback.

Shami, who starred in the India ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 campaign, clinching 24 wickets (most), stated that he is trying his best to be available for such an important series. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is likely to announce the Test squad sometime after the completion of the T20Is against Afghanistan.

Speaking to India Today, Shami, who is also the recipient of the Arjuna Award this year called winning the prestigious recognition his biggest achievement thus far, while also talking about his T20 World Cup plans.

“I am trying best to be available for the selection for England Test eseries. Test match is longer format so you don't want to be in doubt. Whenever it comes to T20s, many times I don't understand that whether I am in scene or not. But what I feel is that you have IPL before the T20 World Cup and that is the best opportunity to bring in momentum, and if management will ask me to play, I’ll be available.”

The first Test will be played in Hyderabad, followed by matches at Visakhapatnam, Rajkot, Ranchi, and Dharamsala.
