Chennai Super Kings (CSK) pulled off an epic trade move to rope in Sanju Samson from Rajasthan Royals (RR) in exchange for Ravindra Jadeja and Sam Curran ahead of the 2026 mini-auction.
This move is touted to be CSK's long-term plan to replace the captain and wicketkeeper, MS Dhoni and potentially lead the team in the future.
Upon completing his trade move to the South, the five-time champions have announced his jersey number in an epic style, with a special video for him.
CSK's grand welcome for Sanju Samson
The Super Kings used their social media channels to make it official that Samson will wear number 11 for the Men in Yellow from the 2026 season.
Video also featured a photo frame of the player posing with the legendary Indian actor Rajinikanth — Samson has spoken about his admiration for the actor publicly on multiple occasions, often delivering his famous Tamil dialogues in shows and interviews.
A massive Samson cut-out was also raised by fans, while one was constantly seen hyping up the player arrival, telling others to brace themselves for a grand welcome for the star player.

The opening batter begins his journey with the new franchise, after having a 13 year affiliation with the Jaipur-based franchise. He ends his RR stint as their highest run-scorer, with 4219 runs in 150 innings at a strike rate of 140.53 and two centuries and 26 fifties to his name.
The mini-auction for the upcoming season will happen on December 16 in Abu Dhabi after the teams finalised their retentions and releases earlier this week.
