The grand stage of the IPL has gifted some of the outstanding talents, and Mayank Yadav is the newest addition to the list. After making his debut in the IPL 2024 for Lucknow Super Giants, Indian cricket witnessed a future pace superstar in him.

Even his debut was a dreamy one, but consecutive injuries kept him away from the game. Now, with the franchise choosing to retain him, he’s grateful to the management for standing by him through it all.

Mayank Yadav appreciates LSG’s faith during his toughest phase

Every IPL season delivers a fresh surprise, and in 2024, it introduced India to a future pace sensation. Making his debut for the Lucknow Super Giants in IPL 2024, Mayank Yadav stunned the world with his remarkable speed. But the glory was short-lived as consecutive injuries cost him big, as in two years, he just featured in six IPL games and secured nine wickets only.

Ahead of the IPL 2026, the LSG management has retained him, showcasing faith, and the young Indian bowler can’t be more thankful. In a candid chat with the Times of India, he expressed heartfelt appreciation for the team’s unwavering belief in him.

“It’s a huge thing for me, and I am thankful that despite all the setbacks due to injuries in the past 2-3 seasons, LSG is still backing me. The team, the owner, has been with me always, both on and off the field. In fact, the owner, Dr Sanjiv Goenka, gave me confidence that he’s there whenever I need it or whatever I need in my life,” he said.

Mayank talks about Shami's influence

The trading window for the IPL 2026 has shown some of the shocking trades, and Mohammad Shami’s trade to the LSG. The world was in shock, but LSG’s bowling unit got a huge boost with his arrival. When Mayank Yadav was asked about this, he said he is thrilled to share the dressing room with the seasoned pacer.

“Shami Bhai was with me in rehab at the National Cricket Academy (NCA). I have known him for the last one and a half years. It will be very exciting for me to share ends with him,” he said.

After his IPL career has been hampered enough since his debut, the upcoming edition will be a crucial part of his career. As he gears up for the new edition, his sole focus is to stay on the field and make meaningful contributions to the team.

“I have just one goal, that is to play more and more games because that is the only thing I’m missing from the last two years. The only goal I want to achieve this year is to play and contribute to my team,” Mayank Yadav added.

Since entering the IPL in 2022, the Lucknow Super Giants have twice reached the playoffs, yet the elusive title still remains out of grasp. After Rishabh Pant took the helm of the franchise last year, they ended in seventh position. In the upcoming season, they will be eyeing the trophy with a mighty squad.
