RCB batting coach Dinesh Karthik spoke to One Cricket exclusively and addressed the dilemma of choosing the right wicket-keeper between Phil Salt and Jitesh Sharma. While that decision will be taken later, Karthik was elated to have two such quality batters in RCB’s arsenal.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), though missing out on KL Rahul, did secure an explosive opener in English Phil Salt at the IPL 2025 mega auction. KKR were keen to reclaim him before RCB outbid them to sign at a whooping price of INR 11.50 crores.

However, RCB didn’t stop there to add another promising Indian wicket-keeper, Jitesh Sharma. For Jitesh, RCB has to battle with DC, PBKS, CSK, and LSG to finally win him at a price of INR 11 crore.

That said, speaking exclusively to One Cricket, RCB batter coach and former wicket-keeper Dinesh Karthik was happy with both the picks. Karthik opined that Jitesh Sharma is an explosive middle-order batter who plays spin well. Those qualities make him a great fit to achieve success at M. Chinnaswamy Ground.

"He is a very explosive middle -order batsman. We wanted someone who is on the fringes of the Indian team and he is right there. We have seen what he can do in the IPL. Has got areas that he can hit and RCB being a ground where you can play spin well, he comes as a very, very good option," DK said on Jitesh Sharma.

As for Phil Salt, Dinesh Karthik added that the explosive opener needed no introduction. He's a known opener who can maximise the powerplay, and his attitude perfectly suits the RCB dressing room environment.

"Phil Salt, what have I got to say? He is explosive. He is someone who can take on in the power play. Great attitude. Nice guy to have around in the team. Everything about him says he is the kind of guy that RCB would love to have," DK said on Phil Salt.

DK also spoke about the dilemma of which wicket-keeper to choose between Phil Salt and Jitesh Sharma. He said RCB will have their deliberation and decision when IPL 2025 season is around the corner.

"I think it is a decision that we will take closer to the tournament. I think it is a discussion that we need to have and see who is the better fielder, who is the better wicket-keeper and accordingly figure out what is the right option," he concluded.

Besides Salt and Jitesh, RCB also included Krunal Pandya, Tim David, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, and Nuwan Thushara.
