Criticism soared as Pakistan suffered a crushing whitewash against New Zealand in the three-match ODI series. After the recent Champions Trophy and the five-match T20I series against the Kiwis, this has been added as the new setback in their record book.

As their dismal performance sparked criticism, former cricket greats have also opened up on that. Former Pakistani player Basit Ali didn’t hold back, demanding the selection committee’s resignation after the latest setback.

Basit Ali Asks For Pakistan’s Criticism

Over the last few years, Pakistan’s struggle is not new to the cricket world. Their troubles continued in the limited-overs series against New Zealand, culminating in a humiliating ODI whitewash. After a 73-run defeat in the opener, the Men in Green never found their footing, suffering a crushing clean sweep. That devastating performance fueled more criticism.

After that humiliating defeat, Basit Ali opened up and called for some major changes to bring back the old glory. Expressing his disappointment, the former cricketer slammed the selection committee’s failures and demanded their resignation.

"The selection committee should resign. They don’t know how to make teams. From the Champions Trophy until now, it has been a flop show. Even the tomato seller was asking why you didn’t include spinners in the Champions Trophy. Aqib should step down. If you stay for four months, you will lose against Bangladesh as well,” Basit Ali said.

Stars Need to Learn Power-Hitting

Pakistan’s batting woes have become a major concern, with star batters struggling against quality bowling and failing to make an impact. With the 2026 T20 World Cup and 2027 ODI World Cup on the horizon, a turnaround is crucial. To sharpen the performance, Basit Ali urged the PCB to arrange a T10 tournament to focus on the power-hitting area.

"PCB chairman should host a T10 tournament. Babar, Rizwan, Imam-ul-Haq, Salman Agha, Tayyab Tahir, and Abdullah Shafique need to learn power-hitting,” he said.

Once a dominant force, Pakistan’s struggles only seem to deepen with each series. As some of the major ICC tournaments are on the way, they will be eagerly waiting for a stronger bounce back.
