Australian batter Steve Smith lavished praise on Indian cricket sensation Virat Kohli, hailing him as an extraordinary player known for his ability to consistently rise to the occasion in significant matches.

Smith emphasized that Kohli's remarkable track record in delivering exceptional performances in crucial games for the Indian cricket team is a testament to his incredible skill and mental fortitude. The right-handed batter further emphasized that there are only a handful of players who can match Kohli's stature and impact on the sport, highlighting his status as one of the game's true giants.

"Virat Kohli is an Incredible player. He always step up & delivered in big games. He has done it again & again for India in big games - there are not many bigger players than Kohli,”  said Steve Smith on Star Sports.

During the India-Australia 2019 World Cup encounter, the Indian supporters attempted to provoke Steve Smith by referencing the sandpaper scandal. Nevertheless, the Indian captain encouraged the crowd to support rather than jeer Smith shortly after his comeback to international cricket following a one-year suspension for ball-tampering. Reflecting on that incident, Smith stated:

"It was a very nice moment from Kohli in the 2019 World Cup, crowd was booing me & he told the crowd to just support him, What is wrong with him. That was great from Virat, really appreciate it.”

Speaking of Smith, the prolific Australian batter was sidelined from the current white-ball tour in South Africa due to a wrist injury. This injury incurred during the second Test of the 2023 Ashes series at Lord’s. Remarkably, Smith persevered through the discomfort and continued to play in the remaining three matches of the series.

It is anticipated that the 34-year-old will stage his return during the upcoming three-match ODI series against India, slated to be held from September 22 to 27.
