Former Indian pacer Dodda Ganesh has slammed the selectors for excluding in-form batter Sanju Samson from the ODI squad for the upcoming Sri Lanka series.

On Thursday, the Ajit Agarkar-led men's selection committee announced a formidable squad for India's three-match ODI series against Sri Lanka next month.

While most of the senior players, including Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, were recalled, Samson found himself out of the ODI team, with Rishabh Pant and KL Rahul being picked as the wicket-keepers.

'My heart goes out to Samson' - Dodda Ganesh

After India finalised their squad, former Karnataka seamer Dodda Ganesh expressed his disappointment at Samson's ouster.

Taking to his official handle on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Ganesh highlighted Samson's recent impressive ODI performances, sympathising with the Kerala batter.

“Shivam Dube in place of Sanju Samson in the ODIs is ridiculous. Poor Sanju scored a century in his last series against SA. Why him always? My heart goes out to this young man," Ganesh tweeted.

Samson has capitalised on whatever chances he has got in ODIs, amassing 510 runs in 14 innings at a fabulous average of 56.67 and a strike rate of 99.61.

In his last ODI outing, the stylish right-hander hammered a fighting century against South Africa at Boland Park.

However, he managed to retain his place in the T20I team following his valiant fifty that helped India secure a 4-1 series win against Zimbabwe.
