Member of Parliament Shashi Tharoor has slammed the Indian squad selection for the Sri Lanka tour.

Tharoor questioned the selector's motive to not include the likes of Sanju Samson and Abhishek Sharma, two of the most prolific batters in the Indian circuit. 

Abhishek, scored a terrific century against Zimbabwe in his debut T20I series, and Samson, when he last played an ODI match, slammed a match-winning ton against South Africa at Paarl.

Tharoor lashes out at Indian selectors

Despite boasting good numbers, the two players were ignored, and as a result, Tharoor lashed out at the selectors for their bias selection process.

"Interesting squad selection for India’s tour of Sri Lanka later this month. @IamSanjuSamson, who hit a century in his last ODI, has not been picked for ODIs, while @IamAbhiSharma4, who hit a T20I century in the #INDvZIM series, has not been picked at all. Rarely has success in India colours mattered so little to the selectors! Good luck to the team anyway," Tharoor tweeted.

The Indian squad for the SL tour was announced on Thursday, with Suryakumar Yadav appointed as the new T20I captain. Moreover, Rohit Sharma returns in the 50-over format and will lead the side. The core of the Indian team remains the same, with the only surprise being the exclusions of Samson and Abhishek.
