Samson slammed a fighting fifty [X]
India's prominent keeper-batter Sanju Samson emerged as their saviour in the ongoing fifth T20I against Zimbabwe at Harare Sports Club.
After being put into bat, India had a shaky start to their innings, losing their top three batters- Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill and Abhishek Sharma- cheaply inside five overs. However, Samson held his nerves to bail the visitors out of trouble with a fantastic fifty.
'Crisis man, better than Rishabh Pant' - Netizens heap praise on Samson
After India lost the prized wicket of swashbuckling batter Abhishek Sharma, Samson joined stand-in skipper Shubman Gill in the middle.
Although Gill got out off a sharp short ball from Richard Ngarava, Samson kept his composure to stitch a consolidating 65-run stand with fellow Rajasthan Royals batter Riyan Parag.
The stylish batter, who grabbed the limelight with a monstrous 110m six, eventually completed his half century, becoming India's first keeper-batter to achieve the feat against Zimbabwe.
Samson, who struck 58 runs with the help of a boundary and four sixes, received massive applause from the Indian fans for his commendable rescue act.
While some addressed him as India's go-to man during crisis, some even termed him a better T20I batter than the explosive Rishabh Pant.
Despite losing Samson in the slog overs, India powered themselves to a respectable 167-run total, riding on useful cameos from Shivam Dube and Rinku Singh.
