The Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) slipped to a heavy six-wicket defeat to unbeaten Delhi Capitals in match 24 of the IPL 2025 season. The defeat marked RCB’s second this season, and incidentally, both losses occurred at their home ground, the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.

After the match, RCB mentor and former Indian wicketkeeper-batter Dinesh Karthik gave an assessment of the pitch. Notably, his comments over the playing surface further added fuel to IPL pitch controversy this season, one which started off last month when KKR captain Ajinkya Rahane urged the Kolkata pitch curator to assist the home team.

LSG’s Zaheer Khan also jokingly trolled Lucknow pitch curator after defeat to Punjab Kings earlier in the tournament.

Karthik demands home advantage from Bengaluru curator

While speaking with the reporters after the match, RCB mentor Dinesh Karthik stated that the team management had asked the M. Chinnaswamy pitch curator to prepare batting-friendly pitches for the home side. However, both RCB home games played in Bengaluru so far this IPL 2025 season have turned out to be played on challenging surfaces instead.

Karthik said:

“In the first two games, we have asked for good pitches. But it's turned out in this way where it's been challenging to bat on, for sure. Definitely, this is not a pitch that's helping the batters too much. It's a challenging pitch. That has been the case so far in both the games that we have played.”

Dinesh Karthik further stated that the RCB team management will soon have a chat with the pitch curator to discuss the prospect of the upcoming games. He added,

“We will obviously have a chat with the curator. We trust him to do his job, and we will try and do the best of what we can.”

The RCB franchise has so far secured three wins, and sustained two defeats from five matches to be ranked third on the IPL 2025 points table. Their NRR currently reads 0.539.

Under the leadership of Rajat Patidar, the RCB will now face the Rajasthan Royals in Jaipur on Sunday, April 13.
