In a three-match series, Sri Lanka defeated India in the third and final ODI on August 7, 2024, at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. The 'Men in Blue' faced a humiliating defeat as the Lankan Lions registered 110 runs to seal a 2-0 win.

After Sri Lanka's historic win, former Indian opener Aakash Chopra expressed his confusion over the numerous changes India made to their batting lineup during the ODI series.

Aakash Chopra Comments On India's Batting Strategy After Defeat Vs SL

In a video on his YouTube channel,  Aakash Chopra highlighted how different batters were tried at the No.4 position in each game of the series.

He believed the idea from new head coach Gautam Gambhir and captain Rohit Sharma was to maintain a left-hand right-hand combination, but he criticised the decision to demote a player of KL Rahul's calibre to No.6 or No.7. He said:

"No.4 has become a revolving door as we had a different No.4 in every game. Why do you need to push someone like KL Rahul down to No.6-7?

He also questioned the direction the Indian team is taking with KL Rahul, especially with only three more ODIs remaining before the Champions Trophy next year.

He emphasised the need for consistency in the batting order to build a solid and reliable lineup ahead of major tournaments. He added:

Why don't you fight from the front?". India played KL Rahul for two games and then dropped him. It is interesting to think whether he is in their plans because from 2023 no one in the middle order has scored as many runs as him."

India will next face Bangladesh in September in a two-match Test, followed by three T20Is.
