‘It’s Not A Crime To...' - PCB Backs Babar Azam Despite Pakistan’s Early World Cup 2023 Exit

Pakistan skipper Babar Azam failed to lead by example to take them into the knockout stages of the World Cup 2023 in India. Considering his high standards, the 29-year-old, who is currently the world's second-ranked ODI batsman, was only able to muster 320 runs in nine matches before they were eliminated from the competition.

Thus, concerns about his leadership surfaced, and numerous rumors suggested he could be about to resign from the position as a result of pressure from the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).

However, in reality, it does not seem to be the case. Pakistan’s team director, Mickey Arthur, confirmed on Sunday that they are well and truly alongside Babar, and making mistakes on the field is ‘not a crime’.

“I get behind Babar. He is very, very close to me. He's a young guy who needs to be taken on the journey; he needs to be shown the ropes," said Mickey Arthur, as quoted by geo.tv.

Arthur also emphasised that Babar needs time to hone his captaincy skills because he is 'still learning' them. Arthur added:

"He's still learning all the time. We know he's a very, very fine batsman. He learns every day with his captaincy. We have to allow him the time to grow. And in order to do that, you make mistakes. It's not a crime to make mistakes as long as you learn from those mistakes."

Under Babar, Pakistan will be in action again in December when they take on Australia for a three-match Test series away from home.
