'Didn't Have Any Answer,' Shakib Al Hasan Expresses Helplessness Over SA's Dominant Show

As expected, South Africa again rammed a total in excess of over 350 in the ongoing World Cup 2023, which looked out of sight for the side that tried chasing it, which in this case was Bangladesh, as they were bowled out for 233. Captain Shakib Al Hasan revealed that nothing worked against the likes of Quinton de Kock, who smashed a record 174, and Heinrich Klaasen with 90, propelling their side to 382.

Batting got tougher for the Bangladeshi batters as they felt the heat of South Africa's dominant fast bowling attack getting reduced to 81 for six. Later, Mahmudullah Riyad's sensational ton saved them from embarrassment, but still, they were left 149 runs short of the target.

Shakib, during the post-match presentation, was disappointed with what happened as he expressed that they felt helpless against their batters in the end, especially Klaasen, who was magnificent. Further, adding that their bowling seemed clueless against the African fire-power to which they should have bowled better.

"We bowled first 25 overs well. We got three wickets, they were going at about 5 an over. From there they kicked on. Quinton batted really well, and the way Klaasen finished was something we didn't have any answer to. On a ground like this it can happen but we should've bowled better. Lost the game in the last 10 overs,"

The all-rounder also spoke on the context of the position of seniors Mushfiqur Rahim and Mahmudullah in the batting order, mentioning that they have defined roles in the playing XI.

"Has been lot of talking about whether Mushfiq and Mahmudullah should bat higher. But the role they have, they're doing very well. Our top four batters need to do well,"

However, even after this loss, the Tiger's skipper isn't losing hope for a strong finish in this tournament, as hoping to earn at least 5-6 victories even if they are not able to qualify for the next round.

"Long way to go in this tournament, anything can happen. Lot to be learnt, and lot to play for. Will love to finish 5-6 if not in the semis. We're not playing like a team that can do it, but hope to finish stronger."

This was Bangladesh's fourth loss of the World Cup from five games they have played so far, but the Asian side would want to win their next game when they face the Netherlands in Kolkata on 28th October.
