The third big upset of the World Cup 2023 happened in Chennai on Monday night when Afghanistan conquered Pakistan by eight wickets courtesy of two solid partnerships and three fifty-plus scores from the top three batters that controlled the game for them as they chased down 283 in the 49th over of the game.

After the game, skipper Hashmatullah Shahidi iterated that this was a very high-class chase from their side, considering there were hardly any mistakes from the batters.

They didn't lose quick wickets, which helped them stay in the game without losing control of the innings. He further added that they would be able to chase scores like this again in the upcoming matches.

"This win tastes nice. The way we chased was very professional. Looking forward for the other games. The way we chased today, we'll do it again. We have been playing quality cricket, the belief was there when we played the Asia Cup as well. First was England, today Pakistan, looking forward to the other games,"

Shahidi, who scored 48* and finished the game with a boundary, spoke on the positive intent in his side as he praised the spin department for their effort, especially Noor Ahmed, who picked three wickets as he was brought in for this game.

Also, talking about their openers Rahmanullah Gurbaz (65) and Ibrahim Zadran (87), who formed a solid 130-run partnership at the top, the skipper said they were the ones who provided the required momentum.

"We'll try to play positive cricket and do a lot for out country. The spin bowling deprogramming was very good. Noor showed his talent. Gurbaz and Ibrahim gave the momentum and confidence. The game was in our hand from the beginning till the end."

This was Afghanistan's second victory in the tournament, and now, they will march on to face Sri Lanka on 30th October in Pune.
