On Friday, September 13, Team India arrived in Chennai, where they engaged in their first practice session ahead of the crucial two-match Test series against Bangladesh. The first Test match will take place at the Chepauk Stadium In Chennai.

It is Gautam Gambhir's first assignment as India's head coach in Test cricket. Meanwhile, BCCI released a few stills from the training session led by Rohit Sharma. Another noticeable addition to the side was Morne Morkel, who has joined the Indian set-up as a bowling coach.

In August this year, Morne Morkel, who was Gautam Gambhir's first choice as bowling coach, was unveiled as BCCI's latest hiring. The upcoming series would mark his first tenure as India's bowling coach as he was not a part of the Sri Lanka series, while Abhishek Nayar and Ryan Ten Doeschate did travel with the side that went to the Island Nation.

Morne Morkel Opens Up On Phone Call With Gautam Gambhir

In the latest events, Morkel opened up on the opportunity to coach India and heaped massive praise on the defending T20 World Cup winners. Morkel recalled the day he had a phone call with Gambhir regarding the possibility of him joining the Indian set-up. Morkel revealed that he got emotional but did not go to his wife, rather dialled his dad.

"When I ended the call, I sat for about five minutes in the room reflecting on it and the I first phoned my dad. He spoke to me, I didn't even go to my wife. You know, normally they say go to your wife first, but I spoke to my dad and I mean, being a cricket fan for years and knowing what was going to come up, this is quite a special moment for me. So yeah, I enjoyed it for about 5 to 7 minutes to myself and then obviously shared with the family that this is an opportunity and potentially that might happen. I'm just so delighted that we eventually got things over the line, and I'm here," Morkel said in a video posted by the BCCI.

The upcoming two-match series against Bangladesh is crucial for India as they would look to strengthen their position in WTC standings.
