Devdutt Padikkal has expressed his initial take after getting snubbed from Team India squad for the upcoming three-match ODI series against New Zealand.

The 25-year-old, currently in the form of his life amidst a dream run in the 2025-26 Vijay Hazare Trophy season, is yet to make his ODI debut for Team India.

The RCB star has already amassed over 600 runs in just six innings of the ongoing Indian domestic 50-overs competition, having plundered four centuries and another cracking score of 91.

Devdutt Padikkal “makes peace” with NZ series snub

While speaking with the Indian Express, Devdutt Padikkal claimed that he was not disappointed after failing to make it to Team India squad for the upcoming three-match ODI series against New Zealand. The 25-year-old admitted that the competition is intense at the moment, and his only focus right now is to keep piling up runs.

Devdutt Padikkal said, “I wouldn't say it was disappointing. Yes, I was looking at the selection and seeing what would come out. But at the same time, I understood that there are so many batters in the line and everyone has been doing really well.

"And it's not that easy to push into that one-day side. And again, that's something that, as cricketers, you have to make peace with. And you have to just try and do your job and keep scoring runs.”

Padikkal gives credit to RCB

Devdutt Padikkal also thanked RCB staff members, especially Dinesh Karthik and coach Andy Flower for helping him maximise his game.

He added, “To be honest, all the credit for that goes to DK (Dinesh Karthik) and Andy (Flower) at RCB. The way they helped me through that phase and helped me understand how I can maximise my game in the T20 format helped me a lot in terms of understanding what I needed to do.”

With 605 runs in just six innings at a prolific batting average of 100.83, Devdutt Padikkal is currently placed second among the leading run-getters of the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2025-26. Quiet recently, he achieved the huge feat of becoming the first player in the history of Vijay Hazare Trophy to aggregate over 600 runs in three separate editions.
