Delhi Capitals Women ravaged their UP Warriorz counterparts by nine wickets to seal their first win of the ongoing WPL 2024 season.

After Marizanne Kapp's sublime opening gambit and Radha Yadav's spin entanglement restricted the Warriorz to 119-9 off their 20 overs, Capitals openers Shafali Verma and Meg Lanning mowed down their task with ease by listing dazzling half-centuries.

Soon after the match, Verma expressed her excitement about opening the Delhi Capitals innings with Lanning and praised the legendary Australian for guiding her with shot selections.

Shafali Verma hails Delhi Capitals’ culture after win

Delhi Capitals opener Shafali Verma pounded 64 unbeaten runs from just 43 balls and shared a 119-run stand with captain Meg Lanning for the first wicket. Lanning struck a fluent 51 aided with six free-flowing boundaries before Sophie Ecclestone deceived her.

Their collective batting spectacle ensured Delhi Capitals surpassed their meagre task with five-and-a-half overs to spare.

Speaking after the match, Shafali Verma stated:

“DC's culture is amazing. It's great fun to be around the team and opening with Meg. She communicates with me after every ball, guides me with my shot selections throughout the innings and it has been helping me a lot.”

The win marked Delhi Capitals' first of the WPL 2024 season, considering they lost their opening game of the tournament to defending champions Mumbai Indians on February 23.

Shafali Verma and her captain, Meg Lanning, will now turn up for their side in their subsequent WPL 2024 challenge against the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). The much-awaited contest will be staged at the iconic M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on February 29.
