As the Men in Green are all set for the upcoming challenges of the Asia Cup 2025, the team has undergone a massive change. As they are set to step into the big stage, Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan have been left out of the squad.

After Babar’s snub, Mohammad Haris suggested that Babar should improve his T20 batting. But his remarks didn’t sit well, as former Pakistan cricketer Basit Ali hit back strongly.

Basit Ali Takes Strong Swipe At Haris’ Statement

Over the years, Babar Azam has been the strongest pillar of Pakistan’s batting lineup, but in recent times, the momentum has shifted in the batter’s favor. Struggling with his form over the recent few years, Babar Azam lost his place in the team in the last T20I series and faced a snub from the Asia Cup 2025.

As the move raised eyebrows, Mohammad Harris urged the batter to improve his T20 batting approach. But former Pakistan star Basit Ali reacted furiously, telling a YouTube channel that Haris deserved to be ‘beaten with a stick’ for his remark.

“Mohammad Haris Babar Azam ke liye baat kare ki unko improvement ki zarurat hai. Unko dande se maarna chahiye. Tum ho kya, ki tum Babar Azam ke liye baat kar rahe ho. Babar Azam kaptaan hota toh, kya yeh bayaan deta woh?" (Mohammad Haris is talking about Babar Azam that he needs improvement. He should be beaten up with a stick. Who are you that you are speaking about Babar Azam. If Babar would've been the captain, would he have spoken about it.),” Ali said.

PCB Moves On From Babar Rizwan As Youngsters Get Their Chance

Aiming to overcome recent struggles on the global stage, Pakistan made a major shake-up in their Asia Cup squad. As the Asia Cup 2025 is starting on September 9, the Pakistan Cricket Board announced their 17-member squad, and Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan have been overlooked.

As Salman Ali Agha is set to lead the side, Fakhar Zaman made a comeback. After an amazing performance in the last T20I series, Mohammad Nawaz and Hussain Talat have also secured their place. Backed by this new setup, Pakistan will be aiming to script a successful campaign in the upcoming tournament.
