Who is the best in cricket? That discussion is a decade-long as the battle between legends has always excited fans. After emerging as one of the best test batters of the decade, Joe Root has become a tough contender for Sachin Tendulkar’s record of scoring the most runs in Tests.

With each passing Test match, Root is reducing the gap with the Master Blaster’s remarkable milestone. Recently, when Sachin Tendulkar was asked about Root’s chase, he responded with heartfelt praise for the English batter.

Master Blaster’s Heartfelt Praises For Root

In the cricket world, the legacy created by Sachin Tendulkar is not easy to touch, but some of the modern-day greats are chasing the glory. After Virat Kohli broke Tendulkar’s record of the most centuries in ODIs, Joe Root is on the verge of breaking his immortal record of scoring the most runs in Tests. The continuous comparison between two greats is making the contest more entertaining.

Recently, during his ‘Ask Me Anything’ session on Reddit, a fan asked Master Blaster, “What was your first impression of Joe Root? Also, he has now crossed 13,000 Test runs and is second only to you, and he played his 1st match against you.”

Answering the question, the legend showered immense praise on the English batter. He said, “To have gone past 13000 runs is a remarkable achievement, and he’s still going strong. When I saw him for the first time in Nagpur in 2012 during his debut Test, I told my teammates that they were watching the future captain of England. What impressed me most was the way he was able to assess the wicket and how he rotated the strike. I knew at that very moment that he would be a big player.”

Root Inches Closer To Sachin Tendulkar’s Record

After Sachin Tendulkar graced Test cricket with his brilliance, his record of scoring most runs in Test cricket remained untouchable for a long time until stars like Virat Kohli and Joe Root arrived. As Virat Kohli has already hung up his boots, Joe Root is on the verge of breaking that iconic record in the future.

Making debut for England in 2012 against India, Root has already scored 13543 runs in 158 Test matches with 39 centuries and 66 half-centuries. He just needs 2378 runs to Tendulkar’s tally of 15921 runs in the longest format. If he achieves that feat in the future, it will be the biggest milestone of his career and England cricket.

After a brilliant series against India, Root has turned his attention to the upcoming Ashes, where he’ll be determined to rewrite his average record and script a stronger chapter.
