Former Australia captain and World Cup winner Michael Clarke has opened up on his recent struggles with his mental health. The former skipper remarked that he has experienced extreme sadness and a lack of motivation.

Clarke last featured for Australia in 2015, and since then, things have gone downhill for the 43-year-old. In 2019, he underwent surgery for skin cancer and got a mole removed from his forehead.

In 2020, Clarke announced their separation from Kyly Boldy. In the latest events, Michael appeared on Mental As Anyone, where he opened up on his recent struggles.

"I have never been checked, I think it is a given. It is like ADD, it’s a given. Definitely, ask my parents, you don’t need to take me to a doctor. I’ve certainly been extremely sad, devastated, floored, can’t move for days can’t get out of bed. Losing family members, losing a couple of my closest friends, so I think I’ve felt the deepest of sadness, but I think it was sadness. I don’t know if it was depression. I’ve never gone to a doctor to be diagnosed with depression, for example, or to seek medication for depression."

Clarke's Ugly Spat With Ex-Girlfriend

In January 2023, Clarke and his partner Jade Yarbrough were embroiled in a public dispute in Noosa. The incident, captured on camera, clearly shows Yarbrough slapping Clarke and accusing him of cheating on her.

Recently, former England skipper Michael Vaughan too opened up on struggling with mental health and stated that he couldn't even lift a mic.
