In the latest developments around England cricket, former Sri Lanka captain Kumar Sangakkara is likely to be roped in as England's white-ball head coach.

Things are not well for the Three Lions in white-ball cricket, as they faced an early exit in the 2023 World Cup failed to defend their T20 World Cup title and lost to India in the semi-finals of T20 World Cup 2024.

Recently, there were reports that the ECB keeps on giving a longer rope to under-the-scanner Jos Buttler and continue with him as their white-ball captain, but Matthew Mott might lose his job.

Meanwhile, Sangakkara is now the frontrunner to replace Mott as England's white-ball head coach. As reported, Jos Buttler has urged the ECB to look for someone who has great playing experience as well.

Notably, Buttler has spent a lot of time working with Sangakkara at Rajasthan Royals and could reunite with his IPL boss in the England set-up. However, if Kumar takes up the role of England coach, he might leave Rajasthan Royals.

Recently, there were rumours that the inaugural IPL champions approached Rahul Dravid to be their head coach for IPL 2025.

Besides Sangakkara, Andrew Flintoff and Mike Hussey are two former cricketers in race to be the next England white-ball coach.
