Virat Kohli, the legend in the making, once struggled to make his mark in the IPL for as many as three seasons. It took him years to comprehend the fast-paced nature of the game before he became the mega phenomenon.

Kohli was picked by RCB in the inaugural 2008 season after leading India to the U-19 World Cup title.

But during his initial three seasons (2008-2010), he managed 718 runs in 45 games, a far cry from the run machine that he turned out to be later. However, RCB trusted his unexplored potential and Kohli repaid it by becoming the face of the franchise.

Virat Kohli, one of the biggest superstars in cricket today, has dominated the IPL for over a decade. However, the former Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) captain recently opened up about his early struggles in the tournament, admitting that he couldn’t crack the code to having success in the IPL for three seasons.

"Playing in the IPL was something that I was not able to crack in first 3 seasons."

Apart from Kohli, other cricketing greats such as Wasim Jaffer, Robin Uthappa and Kevin Pietersen also had a similar opinion on Kohli’s struggle in early days.

Meanwhile, the breakthrough in Virat's career was in 2011, when he made 557 runs. Through the years, Kohli perfected his game, going on to become the highest run-scorer in IPL history and even breaking a record of 973 runs in 2016.
