Cooper Connolly dwells on his batting position for Punjab Kings

Punjab Kings’ new Australian recruit, Cooper Connolly, has quickly become a fan favorite with his elegant left-handed batting and handy left-arm spin. At just 22, the youngster has already impressed in Australian cricket and is now gearing up to light up the IPL 2026, sparking excitement over his ideal batting position.

Connolly’s arrival in the IPL comes with plenty of anticipation. He has had a remarkable start for Perth Scorchers in the ongoing BBL 2025-26, amassing 136 runs in just two innings at a strike rate of 200, including fifties in both matches.

Although he is currently batting at number three for the Scorchers, Connolly has impressive numbers at four as well, highlighting his versatility. This has sparked an exciting debate among Punjab Kings fans about his ideal spot in the playing XI.

Connolly ready to bat anywhere for Punjab Kings in IPL 2025

With Josh Inglis no longer in the side and Shreyas Iyer excelling at three and four, Punjab Kings face an interesting puzzle. Talking about his role in the IPL, Connolly, as quoted by The Hindu, has made it clear that he is ready to bat wherever the team needs him.

"I like to model my game on being able to be versatile in any position. So whether that is at 3, whether that is in the middle, I'm happy to perform any role," Connolly said while talking to the media on Monday.

In his short T20 career, Connolly has batted at number three in six innings, scoring 317 runs at an average of 52.8 with a strike rate of 145.4. He has also been effective at number four, averaging 56.7 with a strike rate of 145.3.

Having said that, Punjab Kings can be optimistic about Connolly, as he is adaptable and ready to take on any role the team requires. His ability to bring balance and flair makes him a valuable asset, while his potential as a future star for Australian cricket adds to the excitement.
