'Can’t Understand..,' Broad Questions India's Decision To Rest Bumrah For 4th Test vs ENG

England seized firm control over Team India by the second day of their fourth Test match at Ranchi.

Even though the Englishmen were precariously placed at 112-5 at one stage on Day 1, senior man Joe Root tonked a sublime counterattacking century to take his country past the 350-run mark the following morning.

Root shared a fighting partnership with Ben Foakes before adding handing runs in the backend of the innings with fast bowler Ollie Robinson.

According to former England speedster Stuart Broad, Team India fumbled the bag by "resting" Jasprit Bumrah from the fourth Test, as the move apparently "handed back the initiative" to the visitors.

Stuart Broad “can’t understand” Bumrah’s rest

Stuart Broad hailed English spinners for tearing through India's middle-order on Day 2 of their five-day bout in Ranchi. Spinner Shoaib Bashir raked up four Indian wickets, while Tom Hartley snapped two during the concluding stages of the day.

Broad also believes that Team India might well have "handed back the initiative to England" by resting in-form fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah from the playing XI. Taking to X (formerly Twitter), the former England cricketer wrote:

“Haven’t seen much of this Test match as of yet, just clicked on now. England massively on top. Spinners bowling accurately, uneven bounce. Cracks. Bowlers dream. 350 looks 100 above par. Toss in this series seems crucial. Bat first, dominate the game. Bumrah ‘rested’- can’t understand it. 8 overs in his last innings. Handed initiative back to England.”

Jasprit Bumrah was rested from the Ranchi Test as part of his workload management by the BCCI and the selectors. The seasoned Indian speedster collected 17 wickets in the first three matches of the series, which included a match-winning haul of 9-91 at Vizag earlier in February.

Meanwhile, by stumps on Day 2 of the fourth Test, Team India find themselves trailing England's first innings total by another 134 runs, with Dhruv Jurel and Kuldeep Yadav batting at the crease.
