'I Haven't Got Any Indication' - Mitchell Starc on Making Into Playing XI for Lord's Test

With a lead of 1-0, Australia will head into the second Ashes 2023 Test on Wednesday high on confidence, and look to win the Lord's encounter against hosts England. Coach Andrew McDonald has hinted at playing pacer Mitchell Starc in the XI, while the bowler has expressed his readiness for the tie.

Starc, who does not hold a good Test record in England, spoke that getting dropped in such conditions is 'not something new'. In 10 red-ball international matches in England, the left-arm pacer has claimed 37 wickets.

The conditions at Lord's are expected to help bowlers, given the green covering on the pitch. As quoted by ESPNcricinfo, Starc, who sat out of Edgasbton, with management favouring Scott Boland stated that he is in good rhythm, and will make his chances count on the field.

Mitchell Starc on Playing XI for Lord's said:

"I'm used to it now coming to England. It's a squad mentality, much the same as last time. Been around long enough, and been dropped enough. Probably dropped the most in this squad. Not something new to me, won't be the last time, either. It's never fun, everyone wants to play."

"In terms of the team, I haven't got any indication either way (about selection for Lord's). Your guess is as good as mine until the selectors decide. I have different skills that fit into this bowling group so if and when I get a turn, I'll be ready to go. If not this week, then I'll get ready for Headingley."

Starc last played for Australia in the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) Final 2023 against India, which the Pat Cummins-led side won convincingly. Meanwhile, England dropped off-spinner Moeen Ali from the XI and brought in Josh Tongue for the second Test.
