In a remarkable turn of events, Zimbabwe have recorded their highest-ever team total in ODI cricket during their ongoing fixture against the United States in the ICC World Cup Qualifiers. After securing a fighting 35-run victory over West Indies, the hosts took their performance to a whole new level, posting 408 runs and attaining the aforementioned milestone.

Highest team totals for Zimbabwe in ODIs

  • 408/6 vs USA, Harare, 2023
  • 351/7 vs Kenya, Mombasa, 2009
  • 340/2 vs Namibia, Harare, 2003
  • 338/7 vs Bermuda, Port of Spain, 2006
  • 334/5 vs Pakistan, Lahore, 2015

After being put into bat, Zimbabwe got off to a steady start, as openers Joylord Gumbie and Innocent Kaia added 56 runs for the first wicket. After Kaia lost his wicket to Jasdeep Singh, stand-in skipper Sean Williams joined hands with Gumbie to steady the ship for the hosts, adding mammoth 160 runs for the second wicket.

After Gumbie departed, Williams shifted gears, helping Zimbabwe increase their run rate exponentially. Sikandar Raza and Ryan Burl also smashed the USA bowlers all around the park, contributing 48 and 47 runs, respectively.

Williams, Zimbabwe's wrecker-in-chief, hammered 174 runs off just 101 balls, including 21 glorious boundaries and five huge sixes. Their batters' valiant efforts helped the hosts breach the 400-run mark for the very first time in ODI cricket.
