'Can't Outsmart Someone Like MSD' - Pat Cummins Ahead Of SRH vs CSK Clash in IPL 2024

In an interview with Star Sports, Sunrisers Hyderabad captain Pat Cummins opened up about his experiences and expectations in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024.

With the IPL 2024 season heating up, Cummins humbly acknowledged the strategic brilliance of former Chennai Super Kings captain, MS Dhoni, ahead of their crucial encounter on Friday.

Leading the Sunrisers for the first time, Pat Cummins finds himself steering through the IPL's highs and lows. The team is currently positioned seventh in the standings. 

However, he remains optimistic about improving their rank and possibly securing a top 4 finish, an achievement the franchise has not seen since 2021.

The game in Hyderabad against Chennai Super Kings, led by Ruturaj Gaikwad, is crucial for the Sunrisers, especially after their record-setting performance earlier in the season at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium.

Cummins shared his philosophical approach towards leadership, highlighting the importance of creating a team environment where each player performs to their potential. 

He subtly dismissed the idea of outwitting strategic giants like MS Dhoni, instead concentrating on internal team dynamics.

"My main job as a captain is to get the best out of out guys, so obviously you look at the opposition little bit and see what they're doing but I don't think I'm gonna try and outsmart someone like MSD, you try and play your best, try to bring the best out of the guys and hopefully it works,” said Cummins.

Furthermore, Cummins commented on the pressures and expectations of playing in the IPL, especially from the passionate fan base. 

He articulated an understanding of the unpredictable nature of T20 cricket, where wins and defeats are part and parcel of the game.

"Whatever team you're playing in, whether you're captain, player or whatever it is. There's always huge expectation, we know how passionate the fans are, its great to see them turn up to the ground and its packed out. So nothing new, w're going to be trying our best, T20s, its a hard format, you have some amazing wins and also have some tough losses but we're giving it our best shot and desperately trying to win this IPL,” added the 2023 World Cup winning captain.

As Sunrisers Hyderabad gear up for the upcoming challenge against Chennai Super Kings, Cummins will look to bounce back and lead his side to their second win of IPL 2024.
