'Can't Be Bigger Than That'- Sourav Ganguly Wants India vs Pakistan Semifinal

India vs. Pakistan rivalry is arguably one of the most intense rivalries in sports. Political tensions have restricted the cricket teams' fixtures to only ICC events. Regardless, the hype and intensity towards each game refuses to die down.

This year, the two nations met for a league stage game in the World Cup on October 14, wherein the host nation, India, outclassed the rivals. Since then, Pakistan toppled to record four losses in a row for the first time in their World Cup history.

While India sits comfortably at the top of the table with a 100% win record, Pakistan's semi-final qualification is under serious threat. They are at the mercy of the result of New Zealand's final group stage game vs. Sri Lanka, which is set to take place today.

Sourav Ganguly Wants India To Clash With Pakistan In World Cup Semi-Final

Interestingly, the team to finish fourth in the points table will meet India in the semi-finals, which sets the stage for a potential India vs. Pakistan clash. While it seems a far-fetched dream given the present circumstances, former Indian captain and BCCI president Sourav Ganguly is looking forward to witnessing the epic clash.

While speaking to Sports Tak, Ganguly said that he is rooting for Pakistan to secure the final semi-final berth to set up an epic knockout match with India.

"It can't be a bigger semi-final than that," said Ganguly.

However, it's easier said than done. Pakistan's fate is no longer in their own hands. They have lost that luxury after losing to Afghanistan and South Africa by the barest of margins. Only the Kiwis' loss against Sri Lanka can save the day for the neighbours.

Earlier, India locked horns with Pakistan during the 2011 World Cup semi-finals, which ironically also took place in India. The host nation trashed Pakistan and went on to win the title eventually. It remains to be seen if history repeats itself.
