Pakistan cricketer Shadab Khan amusingly tried to imitate Glenn Maxwell's 'no footwork' style with the bat at his team's net session prior to their next ICC World Cup 2023 league stage encounter against England on Saturday (November 11).

With a victory necessary for Pakistan to maintain hopes of securing a semifinals berth, Shadab seems to have taken inspiration from Maxwell after his timeless classic against Afghanistan at the famous Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

Maxwell produced a records-shattering 201 not out off just 128 deliveries to pull off a stiff run-chase of 292 to almost singlehandedly take Australia home from a precarious 91 for 7, unveiling a breathtaking counter-attack when an incredible World Cup upset seemed imminent in Afghanistan's favour.

Shadab Copies Maxwell's 'No Footwork' Style

To further underline the greatness of the effort, Maxwell faced sustained cramps in the extensive heat and humidity in Mumbai. The cricketer chose to persist with the task when giving up and retiring out could've been the straightforward option amidst extensive strain and fatigue.

Maxwell, who couldn't move across the crease or use his strides, decided to stand still and give the ball a full monte. What followed were remarkable scenes as one after the other the extravagant middle-order batter dispatched the Afghanistan attack for maximums and fours during One-Day cricket's maiden double century in a run-chase.

This style of batting had been dissected by maestro Sachin Tendulkar as Maxwell's best option once physical strain didn't allow him the chance to move or shuffle across the crease.

The 'no footwork' approach has since garnered fame amongst fans and fellow players as Shadab was seen trying to replicate the Aussie match-winner's style that tactically allows any injured hitter to watch the ball with utmost focus and depend on hitting it firmly over the ropes.
