On Sunday, December 15, Mumbai beat Madhya Pradesh by five wickets to clinch their 2nd SMAT title. It was a strong show by the Mumbai players and, in particular, skipper Shreyas Iyer, who led by example.
Despite a great all-round show, there were a few negatives that got exposed in the finals. Prithvi Shaw was one of them as the right-hand batter returned to the pavilion with a low score

Chasing a target of 185, Shaw started the innings with a six but then threw his wicket away following a loose shot that put Mumbai in trouble. Shaw is having a forgetful year with the bat, as he went unsold in the IPL auction and is getting criticised over his fitness and disciplinary issues.
In the latest events, Mumbai skipper Shreyas Iyer too has openly criticised Shaw and admitted that the ex-DC star needs to work on his work ethic. He said,
"I think, personally, he is a God-gifted player. The amount of talent he possesses as an individual, no one has it. That's true. It's just that he needs to improve his work ethic."

"And I have said it before as well in many of the interviews. He needs to get his work ethic right. And if he does that, you know, the sky is the limit for him. Can you force him to? I can't force him. He has played so much cricket. And everyone has given him input. At the end of the day, it's his job to go out there and figure out things for himself," he added while speaking with Cricbuzz.
"We can't babysit anyone, right? Every professional who is playing at this level, they need to know what they should be doing. And he has also done it in the past. It's not that he hasn't. He has to focus. He has to sit back, put a thinking cap on and then figure out himself. He will get the answer. No one can force him to do anything," said Shreyas.
Earlier, the MCA had dropped Prithvi from Ranji Trophy squad as a lesson for the right-hand batter to work on his fitness and disciplinary issues.
