Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood and captain Pat Cummins strengthened Australian advantage over India on a rain-marred Day 3 of the third Test match at The Gabba. After Jasprit Bumrah completed an electric six-wicket haul, Virat Kohli was once again toppled by his off-stump obsession, with Josh Hazlewood drawing his nick for the umpteenth time.

Here’s the timeline of how AUS vs IND panned out in Brisbane:

AUS vs IND Highlights: Bumrah Completes Six, Deep And Siraj Clear Australian Tail

Jasprit Bumrah dismissed overnight Australian tailender Mitchell Starc with a seam up delivery on the fifth stump line in the fifth over of the day. Alex Carey, resuming his innings at 45*, brought up his ninth Test half-century and scored 70 runs from 88 balls to take Australia to 445.

Carey’s belligerent defiance was curtailed by Akash Deep, while Mohammed Siraj picked up his second wicket of the innings in the form of Nathan Lyon amidst constant rain delays.

AUS vs IND Highlights: Mitchell Starc Makes The New Ball Count

A rampaging Mitchell Starc once again made the new ball count, this time by getting rid of Indian opener Yashasvi Jaiswal in just the second ball of the innings after getting hit for a boundary. A couple of overs later, Starc toppled Indian number three Shubman Gill with sheer pace as the visitors reached 6-2 in just 13 balls.

Up against a monumental 445-run total, unbeaten opener KL Rahul was joined by an under-fire Virat Kohli at the crease.

AUS vs IND Highlights: Virat Kohli, Pant Fail To Lead Indian Recovery

Equally frugal with the ball in hand, Mitchell Starc’s new ball partner and comeback man Josh Hazlewood bowled with his trademark zip to draw the fourth stump nick from Virat Kohli. The legendary batter fended off 15 deliveries before his batting failure, scoring a sluggish three in the process as India crashed to 22-3 in 7.2 overs.

India’s X-factor Rishabh Pant also nicked one towards his Australian counterpart Alex Carey, albeit off the bowling of Pat Cummins after scoring nine from 12 balls. With only 17 overs of play possible in the Indian innings on Day 3 amidst constant rain interruptions, Team India reached 51-4 with captain Rohit Sharma (0*) and KL Rahul (33* off 64) batting at the crease.

The two cricketers will resume the first Indian innings on Day 4 as they find themselves another 394 runs away from the hosts.
